Today, residents across Honiton & Sidmouth received a newspaper from Richard Foord and the Liberal Democrats claiming credit for the Government’s partial U-turn on the Family Farms Tax.
The reality couldn’t be further from the truth.
Local Conservatives have been campaigning for months to scrap this damaging tax on family farms. Across East and Mid Devon, almost 2,500 residents have already signed our petition calling for the Family Farms Tax to be abolished.
We’ve been out speaking directly to farmers and rural communities hearing first-hand the anger and concern about what this policy could mean for generational farming, food production, and rural livelihoods.
Meanwhile in Parliament, when the Conservatives tabled an Opposition Day motion to scrap the Family Farms Tax in full, the Liberal Democrats were given the opportunity to stand with Britain’s farmers.
Yet every Liberal Democrat MP failed to turn up to vote – including Richard Foord.
Local campaigns, petitions, and pressure from farmers and organisations like the NFU have forced the Government into a partial climbdown, but the fight isn’t over.
Local Conservatives will continue standing up for our farmers, our rural communities, and our food security.
