Conservatives brought forward a motion to scrap Labour’s Family Farms Tax in full, following months of pressure that had already forced a partial Labour U-turn. Conservatives voted to protect family farms. Labour voted against it.
Richard Foord, Liberal Democrat MP for Honiton and Sidmouth, failed to back the motion, abstaining rather than voting to scrap the tax.
For a largely rural constituency where farming underpins local jobs, food security and family livelihoods, this was a clear missed opportunity to stand up for agriculture and the future of family farms.
Local Conservatives will continue to hold the Liberal Democrats to account and stand up for rural communities across East and Mid Devon.
