Local Conservatives are doing things differently for a change on fighting for Post-16 Education in Honiton.
Standing up for young people, while the Liberal Democrats sit back and let standards slip.
- The closure of sixth form provision in Honiton is a failure of local leadership — and a direct result of decisions made and avoided by the Liberal Democrats.
- Richard Foord abstained on a vote on Labour’s plan to slap VAT on private schools. That vote allowed Labour’s education policy to go through *unchallenged*, causing real-world consequences.
- Families are being priced out of private schools.
- Pupils are flooding into already stretched state schools.
- The cost of running schools has gone up — with no extra funding provided.
This isn’t theoretical. This is exactly why Honiton Sixth Form is under pressure — while pupil-per-place funding in the *South West remains the lowest of anywhere in the UK*.
Jack Barwell, our Media Spokesperson, is fighting to bring back *real opportunities* for young people in Honiton.
The Lib Dems? They had the power. They chose to abstain, delay, and ignore.
So sign the petition below to protect education opportunities
- Opposing VAT on private schools which is driving more students into the state sector and taking extra funding away from our communities
- Pushing for a new 6th form college to open in East Devon to give people vocational and educational opportunities in a college setting close to home
- Working with educational charities to help students reach top universities and apprenticeship opportunities so rural kids don’t miss out.
📣 Back common sense for a change.
