A letter from Paul Carter

Dear resident,

Honiton is a town with real heart.

You see it on the High Street, in the weekend markets, in our pubs, cafés, independent shops, community businesses and local organisations. You see it at places like The Beehive, where people come together and where so much more could be done to support the life of our town.

But if we are honest, Honiton also needs care and attention.

Too many shops are empty or boarded up. Local traders are being squeezed. Parking is too often difficult and expensive. Our train line is not reliable enough. The people and places that give Honiton its character are working harder than ever, but they need someone prepared to stand up for them.

That is why I am standing in the upcoming Honiton St Michael’s by-election.

I want Honiton to have a strong local voice on East Devon District Council. I want to work constructively with Cllr Jenny Brown and others to get practical things done: supporting our High Street, bringing more footfall into town, pressing for better rail services, protecting community assets, and fighting for better value for council taxpayers.

This campaign should be about Honiton and what residents want for its future. That is why I have created a short residents’ survey with the local Conservatives. I would be grateful if you could share the issues that matter most to you, and your ideas for regenerating Honiton High Street.
